eBay Vintage England Aynsley Bone China Teacup & Saucer; Up for sale is a set of a teacup and saucer made by Aynsley China Ltd, dated around 1930’s. The set of teacup and saucer is in a light milk yellow color. The teacup has a wider rim and a tapered body as a corset shape that was very popular in its 1930s heyday. Two identical but anti-parallel flower bundles are painted at both sides of the handle. The rim and base are decorated with gold circle ornaments in combination with a turquoise green circle at the rim. The handle is also gold decorated. The saucer is painted with flower bundles and branches on one side whereas on the other side with flowers in a simpler manner. The rim of the saucer is also gold decorated in combination with a turquoise green circle. The bottoms of both pieces are stamped with the Aynsley hallmark, with a crown above the scroll containing “AYNSLEY” and “ENGLAND” below, whereas “BONE CHINA” at either side of the crown. In addition, the saucer has a handwritten number B5244. Aynsley China Ltd. was a British manufacturer of bone china tableware, giftware and commemorative items. The company, founded in 1775 by John Aynsley, was a favored supplier of the British royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II and Diana, Princess of Wales, who chose Aynsley china as wedding presents from the British china industry. Bone china is a type of porcelain containing a minimum of 30% of phosphate derived from animal bone ash. It was initially developed in the mid-18th century by English potters and is known for its high levels of whiteness and translucency, and high mechanical and physical strength and chip resistance. The high strength allows it to be produced in thinner cross-sections. Measures: Teacup, 2 ½” (high) x 3 3/8” (rim diameter) x 4 3/8” (handle to tip) x 1 ¾” (base diameter); Saucer, 5 ½” (rim diameter) x 7/8” (high) x 2 ½” (base diameter).
