The antenna can be pole mounted at ground level or elevated depending on the user’s personal requirements. The antenna is rated at 400W pep. The antenna comes with fixings and installation guide.The power rating is for intermittent amateur (400W CW or 400W SSB) use and not for AM broadcast or constant carrier data modes. For AM broadcast a much higher power BALUN is required.» How it works: The antenna is fed using 50 Ohm coax via a SO-239 socket at the base of the unit. A 6:1 UNUN transformer is located in an IP65 weather sealed box at the bottom of the bracket section of the fibre glass elements. The antenna comes in four parts, three fibreglass poles and one stainless steel tapered whip. The transformer reduces the impedance at the feed point to a more acceptable level making the antenna much more efficient and allowing proper and easy tuning via an external ATU and automatic ATU’s found in most modern radios. The antenna can be grounded if the user experiences excessive local static noise, but as the UNUN is DC grounded: grounding will not affect the tuning ratios. The Highlighted bands in the chart below will require a manual ATU, the others an internal ATU. FAQ’s These are some of the most common questions we get asked by our customers: How do I protect my antenna from the elements? We always recommend protecting any exposed areas of your antennas, such as the UNUN box, with tape or another waterproof material. The sea air and extreme cold will over time have a detrimental affect on exposed areas. Do I need an ATU for my antenna? Many of our antennas will perform much better with the use of an ATU. We do have antennas that will need an ATU such as the X-80, HF-360 and HF-360XP. Please contact us if you are unsure if your antenna choice will require one. How do I mount my antenna? Vertical Antennas: Work best when mounted on a short metal pole at ground level. You can mount 10 – 20 feet up but the higher you mount, the further away the antenna moves from it’s natural earth. CB Mobile Antennas: Our Stinger antennas will require a mount depending on how you wish to mount it. Still need technical advice?
