However, for those who are not accustomed to sitting on the floor for long periods of time, it is difficult to make it a habit as their legs may become numb or painful. This ZAFU & ZABUTON is a meditation-specific cushion developed for such individuals. The ZAFU is made of breathable buckwheat husk, a traditional Japanese material, and the ZABUTON is made of traditional Japanese futon cotton. Both covers are made of 100% cotton, using natural materials unique to Japan. The design also features a YING YANG pattern that matches the scene of meditation, and is made in bright and modern colors that blend with the room’s interior. Both ZAFU and ZABUTON have separate covers and fillings, which is a characteristic feature. 【ZAFU】 We have put buckwheat husks inside ZAFU. Buckwheat husks are known for their good breathability, so even if you sit for a long time, it is less likely to get hot or stuffy. In Japan, they have been used as a material for pillows for a long time. To ensure long-term cleanliness, we put buckwheat husks in a zippered inner bag and cover it with an outer cover, so you can take out all the contents and wash them separately. The studio was a stylish and beautiful space filled with bright sunlight. It had large cushions and pillows placed throughout. Seeing that, I thought, «»This is it!»» but I couldn’t find the same ones anywhere. So, I decided to make them myself. However, the downside of using the commonly used cotton for cushions is that it tends to flatten quickly. I wondered if there was a way to prevent this and if there was a more comfortable material to sit on for a long time. That’s when I thought of using buckwheat husks, which have been traditionally used as pillows by Japanese people. Buckwheat husk pillows allow heat to escape from the head, even on hot and humid summer days in Japan, and they can support the weight of the head without flattening. They can also be completely emptied, washed, and dried, allowing for long-term cleanliness. For the cushion, I decided to use futon cotton, which is commonly used in Japanese bedding. I realized that Japanese bedding could be a wonderful material for mindfulness meditation. The design that my friend created was based on the concept of yin and yang. Yin and yang represent the integration and harmony of opposing elements, making it a perfect fit for the meditation scene. However, I was a little unsure if this would be well-received by many people. So, I decided to try crowdfunding, and I was able to receive support from 130 people, which allowed me to bring the product to market. ＜Actual customer feedback＞ – All types had very vibrant and beautiful colors, but I particularly liked the combination of Ying Yang Orange and Persimmon. The material (fabric) was smooth and comfortable to sit on. The cushion is a larger size that doesn’t let my knees hang off, and when I sit on it on top of the zabuton, my buttocks and knees feel stable, allowing me to sit for hours. – The zabuton has just the right amount of pressure when sitting in a meditation posture. The cushion doesn’t sink too much, and my body feels comfortable. I also think the color combination is very nice. – Both the zabuton and cushion have the perfect firmness and height for meditation. With these, I can concentrate without any pain or discomfort and maintain a good posture. The design, which gives a sense of the universe, is especially nice. It makes me feel motivated. Personally, I think Ying Yang Orange and Mustard are the best ! – Even if I want to create the correct posture for meditation, my hip joints are stiff, making it difficult to achieve the right posture. However, with these products, I was able to easily create a comfortable posture without straining anywhere.
